After Alex, a struggling actor, is evicted from his apartment, his best friend, Brett, who's married and has two young kids, tries to convince him to stay in LA. Meanwhile, Brett's wife, Michelle, deals with her goalless big sister, Tina, who's visiting from Houston.

Tina tries to shake Alex out of his funk by vowing to help him get the career of his dreams. Meanwhile, Brett gets in trouble at work when his creative instincts rub co-workers the wrong way, and Tina convinces Michelle to spice things up in the bedroom.

Brett's invite to a movie premiere leads to an impromptu night on the town for everyone. Tina and Alex engage in a personal "mission", Brett looks to mend a work relationship, and Michelle meets David, a divorced dad who wants to start a new charter school.

Whilst Brett and Michelle struggle through an intimate night, Alex accompanies Tina back to Texas.

Michelle organises an outing for old friends, but it's nearly ruined by Brett's bad attitude and another group who have booked the same venue for a game of "Kick the Can".

Brett meets a New Agey woman on his morning hike who encourages him to be more introspective, which leads to a revelation at work. Meanwhile, Tina tries to make amends with Alex by getting him an audition, and Michelle helps David with the charter school.

Michelle hosts a fund-raiser for the charter school, while Brett has a consciousness-raising experience at Linda's house. Meanwhile, Tina struggles with her business venture, but begins to rethink her future after a conversation with Larry.

In the Season 1 finale, Alex gets big career news that he hopes to share with Tina, who's busy planning her future with Larry. Meanwhile, Michelle makes a name for herself on a trip to Sacramento, and Brett shares his feelings with his wife.
