U.S. Marshall Raylan Givens heads back to where he grew up - basically a 21st century Wild West - where he faces off against one of his oldest friends.

An escaped convict is out searching for his wife and buried loot. Raylan takes on the task of bringing him to justice.

Being the new guy at the station Raylan is put in charge of Pinter, an informant who has been working with the police for years. When Pinter doesn't show up for his reward, Raylan becomes suspicious and investigates.

Raylan makes his way to California, hot in pursuit of criminal Roland Pike who has managed to escape Raylan twice before.

Raylan is forced to choose sides when his disaffected father goes to war with a murderous drug lord.

Raylan sets out to investigate the apparent suicide of financial wizard Owen Carnes. His widow knows more than she is letting on, making the case difficult for Raylan.

Raylan foils an attempt on Ava's life and vows to find out who was behind it. Later, Raylan finds out that Ava may not have been the target.

Raylan has his hands full when a murderous inmate takes hostages and starts making demands.

Suspended as a Marshall, and beaten up after a few drinks too many, Raylan pulls himself together and decides to jeopardise his career further by going after the thugs who have been harassing his ex-wife's new husband.

Raylan tries to make up for the problems he has caused. He leaves his assignment as a reluctant judge's bodyguard in order to track down an old lead.

Raylan discovers his father, Arlo Givens, ran Bo Crowder's protection business into the ground while Bo was in prison. Raylan sees an opportunity as Crowder is under investigation for the meth lab explosion case.

Raylan discovers some more unpleasant facts about his father Arlo, including a powerful enemy. For his father to have any chance of survival, Raylan will need to assist him.

Things come to a head in Harlan when the worlds of Raylan, Boyd and Bo Crowder collide.
