Beginning in Arizona with the death of Norma's husband, Norma purchases the Seafairer motel located in a coastal Oregon town so that she and Norman can start a new life.
After the death of her husband, Norma Bates buy a motel on the outskirts of an idyllic coastal town seeking a fresh start. Both Norma and teen son Norman soon discover the town isn't what it seems, and neither are the locals, but the Bates are done being pushed around.
Dylan wastes no time causing trouble at home and all the while the Bates family is inexorably drawn into the dark underbelly of White Pine Bay.
Dylan starts his new job and learns that there is more to it than he thought. Meanwhile, Norman and Emma make a shocking discovery.
Norma's suspicions about people in town are raised, but other distractions continue to surface.

Norman desperately seeks his mother's return home as Norma gets some much needed help. Norman and Emma find more clues that lead to a big discovery, while Norman continues to pursue Bradley.
Dylan asks Norman to move in with him. Chaos ensues at the Bates home as Norma tells Emma that some things are better kept to themselves.
The Bates receive some surprising help in covering up the incident with Deputy Shelby. The peace doesn't last long though, as a long-time client of the motel arrives, seeking to resume his old arrangement with the previous owner. A stray dog enters Norman's life.
Norman is devastated by the death of his dog Juno and seeks comfort in a new hobby. Public arguments lead to Norman's principal calling Norma about his behaviour. Dylan brings some odd customers to the motel, and Norma is threatened by mysterious guest Jake Abernathy.
Norma goes to Sheriff Romero for protection from Jake Abernathy and puts the motel up for sale. Bradley asks Dylan for help recovering some of her deceased father's things, leading the two to bond. Norman's teacher Miss Watson encourages him to publish a short story.
Sheriff Romero asks Norma for her trust in letting him deal with Jake Abernathy, but she still insists that Dylan teach her how to use a gun. Norman asks Emma to the dance, but can't seem to get over Bradley. Norma tells Norman a secret no one else knows.
